Activities

The Ethics and Welfare Committee will provide short position statements and guidance resources to assist in the promotion of ethical principles and good standards of animal welfare.

Areas being worked on, to be published in due course, include:

  • Ensuring effective ethical review
  • Implementing the 3Rs
  • Achieving a good 'culture of care'
  • Supporting personnel (including compassion fatigue)
  • Good experimental design
  • Promoting openness and transparency
  • Research Integrity

Note, the contents of these resources do not represent 'standards' and are not substitutes for following relevant local and national legislative and regulatory requirements. These resources are designed to help the consideration, sharing and supporting of good practice.

Within ICLAS, the Ethics and Welfare Committee has a role in identifying opportunities for input into the activities of other global bodies (such as WOAH, CIOMS, WHO)on issues relevant to consultations or other calls for submission from these bodies.

The Committee will also help ensure that proposals being considered for funding by ICLAS meet expected ethical and animal welfare standards.
